The »glasstec« is the world's largest trade fair for manufacturing, processing and cross-industry application of glass. The renowned exhibition opens its doors from 23 to 26 October 2018 in Düsseldorf. In addition to the broad range of new products and developments in the exhibition halls, visitors will also be introduced to the latest trends in the material of glass by special exhibitions and conferences. Especially the »glass technology live« area in hall 11 is worth mentioning. Current trends from research and development are shown here.

In this unique environment, the international conference »engineered transparency« invites experts and a specialist audience to participate with interesting contributions to the meeting. The »engineered transparency« takes place from 25 to 26 October 2018 and is organized by the Universities of Darmstadt and Dresden in cooperation with Messe Düsseldorf. The conference will be hold in a specially designed conference area in hall 10.

The participants of the event can easily combine the visit of the conference and the visit of the exhibition halls. A guided tour through the special exhibition »glass technology live« is offered. The »glass technology live« will also appear in a new face in 2018. We would like to invite all guests to the end of the first conference day for the »Get Together«, which takes place live in the cafe of »glass technology live«.

We are very proud to welcome this year the following keynote speakers:

Firmly anchored in the framework of the world's largest trade fair on glass in building, the glasstec hosted the international symposium >engineered transparency< during 20th and 21st of September, 2016 again. Hot topics related to the material glass still in its sight, the fair offered numerous special shows and conferences for interested visitors in addition to the extensive exhibition.

The international symposium >engineered transparency< used this special opportunity to bring expert over 200 speakers and specialists from 25 countries together at one conference. Like in 2014, the universities of Darmstadt and Dresden organized this event in cooperation with Messe Dusseldorf in CCD Süd, close to the exhibition halls.

At this year engineered transparency two special mini-symposia were planned for the first time. Organized by the "Hüttentechnischen Vereinigung der Glasindustrie" (HVG) and "Deutschen Glastechnischen Gesellschaft" (DGG) one lecture block regarding the main topic "Glass with integrated functions and embedded sensors" took place. Further lectures regarding glazing technologies in cooperation with "Fachverband Konstruktiver Glasbau" (FKG) and "Bundesverband Flachglas" (BF) were content of the second symposium.

Attendees combined a visit to the conference and visiting the exhibition halls uncomplicated. The conference also provided a guided tour though the special show >glass technology live< accompanied by a >Get Together< social event in this interesting environment to round off the first conference day.

The biennial two-day conference provided lectures about glass as building component. More than 70 specialists’ lectures formed the core of the conference, which is organized by TU Dresden and TU Darmstadt.

Numerous presentations got leaded by renowned keynote speakers such as Dr.-Ing. Winfried Heusler, Senior Vice President of SCHÜCO, Bielefeld/Germany, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jan Knippers, Partner of »Knippers Helbig« and Head of the Institute of Building Structures and Structural Design at University of Stuttgart/Germany, John Kooymans, Group Leader at RJC, Toronto/Canada and Christoph Timm, Associate of SOM, New York/USA.

More than 200 participants from 26 different states, including delegates from 30 international universities and academies, attended lectures about latest innovations from structural design, facade technology and solar technology.

Numerous of the presented innovations were shown contemporaneously at the special show »glass technology live«, where in addition the first conference day concluded in a communicative »get together«. This special show was part of the very successful trade fair »glasstec« that attracted approximately 43.000 trade visitors and about 1.200 exhibitors in this year. In the area of »glass technology live« latest innovations from research and development were exhibited. A selection of new trend-setting exhibits is a 9,0 m spanning glass bridge as well as timber-glass composite elements and fall protecting glass balustrades combined with adhesive fixings.
